A set of six catalogues presents projects created by Israeli artists in close collaboration with Israel Museum curators and installed together in a special exhibition celebrating the Museum’s 50th Anniversary. In Apollo and the Chimney-Sweeper, Uri Gershuni draws viewers into a mysterious ramble through the birthplace of photography pioneer Henry Fox Talbot. Gilad Ratman brought together heavy metal musicians whose performance with loudspeakers buried in the ground is the basis for his installation Five Bands from Romania. The video works in Dana Levy’s Literature of Storms question our distinctions between history, human surroundings, and natural environment. Roi Kuper: Gaza Dream features panoramic photographs in which Gaza on the horizon has a shadowy, almost lyrical presence. To create his Bank Hapoalim Carpet, Ido Michaeli convened a wealth of art-historical and Zionist-socialist images. Finally, for Package Deal, Tamir Lichtenberg sold collectors a month’s worth of his work at a fixed price, and the resulting art packages were unveiled in the gallery. Characterized by a distinctive design, each one of the six catalogues features a curatorial essay or a conversation with the artist illuminating the project.
