“It’s Tu BiShvat – the New Year of the Trees!”

In the Middle Ages, Jewish communities throughout the world would celebrate Tu BiShvat – the holiday marking the revival of nature – with a feast of fruit from Eretz Israel, particularly the “Seven Species” mentioned in the Bible. You, too, can serve figs, dates, grapes, pomegranates, and any other fruit that comes to mind on this festive plate, inspired by a French faience plate.

The original is from the Stieglitz Collection, donated to the Museum with the contribution of Erica and Ludwig Jesselson, New York, to American Friends of the Israel Museum
