This beautiful plate was inspired by the mosaic floor of an ancient villa in Zippori – a kind of huge, colorful “carpet” decorating most of the house’s central room. The images on the mosaic included the faces of two women. The portrait that appears on this plate, of a woman wearing a laurel wreath and earrings, is the best-preserved mosaic image in the world.
